Advancing BWC National Implementation in Africa, Latin America and South East Asia

CRDF Global and VERTIC are implementing the project ‘Advancing BWC National Implementation in Africa, Latin America and South East Asia’, funded by the United States, Department of State.

The project’s objective is to advance national implementation of the BWC by working with BWC States Parties on their implementing legislation, regulations, and related measures.

The project foresees national and regional subprojects with BWC States Parties on legislative implementation. BWC States Parties can submit their interest for such subprojects during 2021 and 2022 to nim@vertic.org. The subprojects will then need to be approved for funding by the U.S. Department of State and can be executed during 2022-2024.

Currently, the project is open to BWC States Parties from Latin America, Africa and South East Asia.

The types of assistance available for interested states are as follows:

  • Awareness raising on BWC national implementation obligations;
  • Legislative analysis of existing national legislation, regulations, and related measures related to the BWC;
  • Legislative drafting of BWC implementing legislation, regulations, and related measures;
  • Facilitating regional cooperation to share experiences on drafting implementing legislation, regulations and related measures on the BWC.

For more detailed information and a number of examples of possible projects, please watch the recording below of our online event explaining the project, which was organised on 22 November 2021 on the margins of the 2020 BWC Meeting of States Parties.

The slides presented during this online event can be found here.

If your state is interested in participating in the project or would like to receive more information, please contact nim@vertic.org.
