VERTIC’s Senior Legal Officer Yasemin Balci participated in the Regional Meeting of EU CBRN Centres of Excellence Project 67, held in Tirana, Albania during 5 and 6 November. She also presented on regional legislative trends at the National Focal Points Round Table Meeting that was held parallel to the project’s meeting.
On 15-16 October, Programme Director Larry MacFaul participated in the conference ‘Maintaining Global Strategic Stability and Promoting International Nuclear Cooperation’. The 16th PIIC PIIC meeting on International Security was organised by the China Arms Control and Disarmament Association, Program for Science and National Security Studies and Nuclear Threat Initiative.
On 16 October, VERTIC, together with United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), hosted a seminar on ‘Scientific and technological capacity for disarmament and non-proliferation’. The seminar took place in New York at the United Nations Headquarters during the second week of the United Nations General Assembly’s 2019 First Committee on Disarmament and International Security.

We have learned that Sir Hugh Beach, the Honorary President of the Charity, passed away on 4 September 2019 after a short period of illness. Sir Hugh is survived by three sons and one daughter. He was 96 years old.
