Legal Officer Eliza Walsh participated in a two-day meeting on chemical security from 21-22 October 2024 at the OPCW HQ and Centre for Chemistry and Technology in The Hague.
The meeting was being coordinated by the OPCW Implementation Support Branch and gathered approximately 20 experts and organisations working in the area of chemical security to discuss the development of a Compendium of Best Practices for the Development of a National Legislative and Regulatory Framework on Chemical Security.
On the first day of the meeting, Eliza Walsh presented on national implementation of chemical security by sharing the steps to enact chemical security measures, different implementation approaches that can be taken by states, the benefits of national implementation as well as best practices gathered through VERTIC’s work in this area over the past number of years. Eliza Walsh also contributed VERTIC’s national implementation expertise during the break out discussions on day two of the meeting.
