Legal Officer Eliza Walsh participated in the SynBio Africa Conference 3.0 in Nairobi, Kenya from 17-19 July 2024
During the conference, Eliza Walsh participated on a panel on the topic of biosecurity and the prevention of biological weapons, moderated by Dr James Revill of UNIDIR. Other speakers on the panel included Dr Clarissa Rios Rojas of the Biological Weapons Convention Implementation Support Unit and Dr Sandra Matinyi, Country Advisor for World Health Organisation Uganda. Eliza Walsh presented on the topic of national implementation of the BWC including a legal and regulatory overview of BWC implementation, some of the related challenges, different approaches to national implementation and opportunities for enhancing national implementation. The presentation also included an overview of the UNIDIR-VERTIC BWC National Implementation Database.
Throughout the duration of the conference, Eliza Walsh and Dr James Revill promoted the UNIDIR-VERTIC National Implementation Database at a booth which garnered a great deal of interest from the participants.
