On 15-16 June 2021 VERTIC and ISTC organised an online Forum for university faculty and students on the topics “Nuclear Weapons Non-proliferation Regime and Disarmament” and “The IAEA – System of Safeguards and Verification of Nuclear Disarmament”.
Dr. Timur Zhantikin, Candidate of Ph.-Math. Sciences, member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan, General Director of the company “Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants”, was the keynote speaker and provided a comprehensive presentation on the nuclear non-proliferation regime. He also addressed questions related to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including the planned construction of the NPP in Kazakhstan, prospects for the Cut-off Treaty and the verification of disarmament in Kazakhstan.
The meeting was attended by students, masters and young specialists from the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, the Nazarbayev University, the Narxoz University, the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Shakarim University, the Kazakh-American Free University, the Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, the K.Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University, the Institute of atomic energy, NAK “Kazatomprom”, the Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC, the Mangistau atom electric complex (MAEC), the Association of “Nuclear Society of Kazakhstan” and the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
