VERTIC participates in the 2018 Stockholm Security Conference
NIM Legal Officer Cédric Apercé participated in the Stockholm Security Conference organised by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in partnership with the Riksdag and the Munich Security Conference on 19 and 20 September 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The theme of the conference was "Emerging Technologies: unseen connections, missing players, absent solutions". It brought together politicians, diplomats, the private sector, international lawyers and non-governmental experts to discuss the risks and benefits that emerging technology poses to international security in diverse fields such as biological security, cyber warfare, and artificial intelligence. Beyond the analysis of emerging technologies, participants also reflected on the desirability and feasibility of international norms, and the appropriateness of familiar arms control frameworks.
