Senior Legal Officer Yasemin Balci participated in a capacity-building workshop on strategic trade control enforcement under the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) during 20-22 August in Lusaka, Zambia.
The workshop was organised by the government of Zambia in cooperation with the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), the 1540 Group of Experts, the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the European Union (EU).
During the workshop, Yasemin Balci presented on VERTIC’s legislative assistance regarding the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution and its strategic trade aspects. Following other presentations by relevant national ministries, the 1540 Group of Experts, WCO and Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the participants examined the current state of implementation of strategic trade control in Zambia and explored possible actions for improvement of implementation.
