On 22 March, VERTIC Programme Director for Verification and Monitoring Larry MacFaul and Professor Hartwig Spitzer of Hamburg University presented on preliminary conclusions from their collaborative project on the Open Skies Treaty.
The project ‘Strengthening Open Skies: a technical, legal and policy analysis’ investigates the remote sensing equipment and methodologies permitted under the treaty. It is funded by the US Department of State Key Verification Assets Fund. The V-Fund Review provides the opportunity for V-Fund project implementers to present on their progress. The group heard presentations on a wide range of innovative technical initiatives for monitoring and verification purposes in the arms control area.
