NIM Senior Legal Officer participates in consultations on UNSCR 1540 legislation in Antigua and Barbuda

On 20-21 November, NIM Senior Legal Officer Sonia Drobysz conducted consultations on UNSCR 1540 implementing legislation in Antigua and Barbuda. Co-organised by VERTIC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event gathered representatives from the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy, Royal Police Force and Ministry of Trade. During two days, the participants developed the contours of 1540 omnibus legislation to prohibit and prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and control activities with nuclear material, biological agents and toxins and toxic chemicals as well as dual-use equipment and technology. They concluded with agreeing on next steps to finalise the draft bill towards its adoption.

Our work with Antigua and Barbuda was funded by the Global Partnership Program of Global Affairs Canada.
