VERTIC welcomes Lord Browne of Ladyton to the Board of Trustees

Lord Browne of Ladyton was elected to the Board of Trustees on 11 May 2011.

Lord Desmond (or ‘Des’) Browne was the Member of Parliament for Kilmarnock and Loudoun from 1997 to 2010. He was a cabinet member under both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

Presently, Lord Browne is the convener of the European Leadership Network for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-proliferation as well as the convener of the Top Level Group or UK Parliamentarians for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Nonproliferation.

Andreas Persbo, VERTIC’s Executive Director, said, ‘I first met then Defence Secretary Browne at a meeting in parliament. I was impressed by the Secretary helping the staff to put all chairs back after the meeting, and helped out by carrying a number of tables. Over the years, I’ve been impressed by his forceful charisma, his strong principles, and his vision of a safer world for us all. Lord Browne strongly backed the so-called UK-Norway Initiative on verified warhead dismantlement during his service as Defence Secretary. For this, VERTIC is very grateful. I am very much looking forward to working with him in the years to come.’

VERTIC is recruiting new trustees. The organization is presently looking to recruit board members with strong credentials in the environment field.
