VERTIC Programme Director for National Implementation participates in Warsaw Chemical Security Conference
Scott Spence, Programme Director for National Implementation, participated in the Second Warsaw Conference on "Reducing chemical threats and enhancing chemical safety and security and strengthening the national security and deepening international co-operation" on 28 May. This one-day conference included introductory remarks by Brig Dr Dariusz Wroblewski, Director of Scientific and Research Centre for Fire Protection in Poland and Ambassador Krzysztof Paturej, President of the International Centre for Chemical Safety and Security (ICCSS). There were several keynote statements including from Mr Mieczyslaw Borowski, President of the Office of Technical Inspection in Poland; Ambassador Vaidotas Verba, Head of the OSCE Project Co-ordination unit in Kiev, Ukraine; and H.E. Hadi Farajvand, Secretary of the National Authority for the Chemicals Conventions in Iran. The participants heard several presentations from national experts as well as from international experts from Canada, Czech Republic, South Africa, Ukraine and the United States. We also saw a practical demonstration of Poland's national capacity for responding to threats in the area of chemical activity (see photo below).
On 29 May, Scott participated in the Inaugral Programme Committee Meeting for the First Global Chemical Safety and Security Summit and International Chemical Safety and Security Fair, to be held in Kielce, Poland during 16-18 November (www.chemss2015.org). Scott is a member of the Programme Committee.
