VERTIC presents at BWC workshop in Ulan Bator, Mongolia
Last week, VERTIC Researcher David Cliff participated in a pair of workshops on national implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Biological Weapons Convention, taking place in Ulan Bator, Mongolia. The workshops, organised by the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs—through the UN's Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific—in collaboration with the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took place on 28 and 29 April, and was held as part of the 'BWC Action' outreach programme established by the European Union.
As part of the BWC workshop, Mr Cliff delivered presentations on 'National Implementation Measures for the Biological Weapons Convention', which in part explained the kind of legislative assistance services that VERTIC is able to provide, and on 'Getting organised at the national level', which addressed the importance of establishing a national authority to coordinate BWC implementation and how such an authority might be structured. Both these presentations are available on the VERTIC website, here and here.
