VERTIC participates in the 3rd Myanmar-UK/US non-proliferation dialogue

Scott Spence, Programme Director for National Implementation, participated in and spoke at the 3rd Myanmar-UK/US non-proliferation dialogue in Yangon, during 9-10 December. Scott also participated in the previous two dialogues in 2013 and 2014, which were organised by the Pacific Forum-CSIS. This third dialogue was particularly timely given the general national election last month, which was discussed during the first session. Other sessions covered the Additional Protocol, the Modified Small Quantities Protocol, and radioactive source management; implementation of the Biological and Chemical Weapons Conventions; strategic trade controls and UN sanctions implementation; and The Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation. Scott presented on the Chemical Weapons Convention and gave an overview of Myanmar's existing legislation to implement it. Myanmar ratified the BWC in December 2014 and the CWC in July.

32 national officials, 17 international officials and experts and 13 young leaders from the US and Myanmar participated in the dialogue.
