VERTIC participates in regional UNSCR 1540 implementation workshop in Nairobi, Kenya
On 14-15 September, the Institute for Security Studies hosted a workshop in Nairobi, Kenya on enhancing implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (UNSCR 1540) and related instruments in partnership with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Secretariat and the African Union (AU) Commission.
During the workshop, IGAD member states discussed the status of their implementation measures and ways to improve their efforts in this regard. Representatives from a range of institutions shared their experience in UNSCR 1540 implementation and highlighted implementation tools and programmes that are available to states. Speakers included representatives from the IGAD Secretariat, UNSCR 1540 Group of Experts, the AU Commission, the Biological Weapons Convention Implementation Support Unit, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
