VERTIC Deputy Director joins Asia-Pacific Leadership Network

VERTIC's Deputy Executive Director, Angela Woodward, has joined the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network. Other New Zealanders in the group include Mr. Jim Bolger, former Prime Minister 1990–97, and Mr. Geoffrey Palmer, former Prime Minister 1989–90.

The group consists of former political, official and military leaders in senior executive positions as well as opinion leaders and shapers from other sectors of society. It aims to inform and energise public opinion, especially high-level policymakers, to take seriously the very real threats posed by nuclear weapons, and to do everything possible to achieve a world in which they are contained, diminished and eventually eliminated.

Mr. Gareth Evans, one of Australia's longest serving Foreign Ministers, is the network's patron and emeritus convenor. Dr. Trevor Findlay, VERTIC director from 1998-2004, is also a member of the network.

Andreas Persbo, VERTIC's Executive Director, said: "Angela's election into the network is a very distinct recognition of her stature in the region, and her capability as an opinion leader. It is also pleasing to see two out of the six directors who have served VERTIC for the last 30 years on the roster. That is an excellent testament to the reputation and impact of the charity itself. My congratulations and best wishes to both."
