Senior Legal Officer Yasemin Balci speaks on UNSCR 1540 implementation at Chatham House

To mark the 10th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1540, which requires UN member states to adopt measures to prohibit and prevent non-state actors from engaging in activities involving nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, Chatham House organised an event on the resolution on Wednesday 5 November. Co-hosted with Project Alpha, King’s College London in partnership with the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs and with the support of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, this event brought together various experts to discuss the successes and challenges in implementing Resolution 1540.

Senior Legal Officer Yasemin Balci spoke on the state of implementation of Resolution 1540 and the ways in which VERTIC as a civil society actor has helped contribute to the Resolution’s implementation.
