Senior Legal Officer Sonia Drobysz participates in OIE workshop on legislation and bio threat reduction

From 20-22 June NIM Senior Legal Officer Sonia Drobysz participated in a workshop on Legislation and Biological Threat Reduction organized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in Panama City, Panama, as part of OIE’s projet on “Veterinary Legislation Support Programme in the Americas”.
The event, hosted for member countries of the Regional International Organization for Plant Protection and Animal Health (OIRSA) focused on the critical role of Veterinary Services in biological threat reduction, with an emphasis on the importance of legislation and interagency cooperation for ensuring effective preparedness and response to biological threats.
Sonia Drobysz presented on the legislative framework for biological threat reduction: the 1972 Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, the UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) and national laws. She was also one of the facilitators during a table top exercise.
