The Verification Research, Training and Information Centre (VERTIC) promotes effective and efficient verification as a means of ensuring confidence in the implementation of international agreements and intra-national agreements with international involvement.
VERTIC aims to achieve its mission through research, training, dissemination of information, and interaction with the relevant political, diplomatic, technical, scientific, academic and non-governmental communities.
Founded in 1986, VERTIC is an independent, non-profit-making, non-governmental organisation.
Promoting effective verification measures for arms control and disarmament agreements, including:
- Biological weapons
- Chemical weapons
- Conventional weapons
- Nuclear weapons
- WMD
- National implementation
Promoting effective verification systems for environmental agreements covering:
Climate change (including UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol and post-2012)
Other supported areas:
Forestry; ozone depleting substances; endangered species; and fishing
Promoting effective monitoring and verification of the peace implementation process:
- UN and European Union sanctions
- Ceasefire agreements
- Electoral monitoring
- Human rights monitoring
- Decommissioning weapons
