Recruitment
There are currently no positions vacant at VERTIC.
Science
Fellowship
The VERTIC Science Fellowship programme, established in 2004 with a grant
from the Polden-Puckham Foundation (UK), has two main purposes:
1. To bring scientists
to VERTIC to explore how their scientific training and background may
be melded to the international and public policy aspects of our environment
and arms control and disarmament programmes; and
2. To enable VERTIC
to tap their scientific expertise to stay abreast of new developments
in their respective disciplines that may benefit the practice of verification
of international agreements.
Science Fellows also
learn how NGOs work, especially the ways in which their structures and
missions affect their activities and how they interact with the academic
and diplomatic communities, industry, government and each other. It is
hoped that some may be inspired to pursue a career in these fields.
The research project,
lasting 3 - 6 months, should enable the Science Fellow to bring together
scientific and technical issues into an overall policy paper. The project
is geared towards science informing policy formulation and implementation.
2006 VERTIC Science
Fellowship (Environment): VERTIC intends to recruit a Science Fellow
for its environment programme during 2006. Please check this website in
August 2006 to see when the recruitment process will begin and for further
information about the project on which the Science Fellow will work.
Internships
Please send your application by e-mail to unini.tobun@vertic.org
or by post to Unini Tobun, Administrator, VERTIC, Development House, 56-64
Leonard Street, London EC2A 4JX, United Kingdom.
VERTIC has opportunities throughout the year for internships at its London
office. The internships are designed to give undergraduates or recent
graduates practical research and work experience in a non-governmental
organization. Internships are available for VERTICs environment
programme and for the arms control and disarmament programme. We would
particularly welcome applications for interns for the environment programme
beginning in Spring 2006, and continuing throughout the year.
The choice of research project depends on the Centres research needs
and the availability of appropriate supervision during the internship
as well as the interns interests and experience. Interns also provide
research assistance to staff and undertake administrative tasks as required.
Internships are normally offered on a full-time basis for a period of
two to three months and are unpaid. VERTIC does not reimburse travel expenses.
Visas/work permits
The requirements for visas and work permits depend on the citizenship
of the applicant. Non-European Union nationals are required to contact
the British Consulate in their country of citizenship for information
on visa requirements and ensure their eligibility for any necessary visas/permits
before applying for the internship programme.
Unfortunately, VERTIC is unable to assist applicants to gain visas or
permits.
Application deadlines
VERTICs internship programme has a continuous application process.
Applications are considered as and when a position is vacant. Applicants
should therefore clearly state which dates they are available for an internship
in their covering letter.
From time to time, internships for specific VERTIC research projects may
be available. These are advertised periodically on this site.
How to apply
Applications should include:
a cover
letter, highlighting your interests in working at VERTIC, your visa/permit
status for working in the UK, and the dates that you are available for
an internship
your CV/resume
a recent writing sample (up to 5,000 words)
contact details for two referees, either former or current professors
or employers
Due to the number
of applications received, incomplete applications will not be considered.
Please send your application by e-mail to unini.tobun@vertic.org
or by post to Unini Tobun, Administrator, VERTIC, Development House, 56-64
Leonard Street, London EC2A 4JX, United Kingdom.
Preliminary interviews will be conducted by telephone for those applicants
who do not live in the London metropolitan area.
VERTIC is an equal opportunity employer.
