Some agreements and resolutions relate to more than one type of weapon. In particular, United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (UNSCR 1540) outlines national implementation measures states should take with regard to nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) weapons, related materials and their means of delivery. It also established the '1540 Committee' to report to the Security Council on progress in implementation of the resolution. UNSCR 1673 (2006) extended the mandate of the 1540 Committee for two years and requested the Committee to intensify its efforts to promote full implementation. UNSCR 1810 (2008) extends the mandate of the 1540 Committee for another three years and states that the 1540 Committee shall continue to intensify its efforts to promote the full implementation through the compilation of information on the status of States’ implementation, outreach, dialogue, assistance and cooperation. Resolution 1810 urges the Committee to continue strengthening the Committee’s role in facilitating technical assistance for implementation of resolution 1540; and encourages the 1540 Committee to engage actively with States and relevant international, regional and subregional organizations to promote the sharing of experience and lessons learned in the areas covered by resolution 1540. It also states that the committee should submit its next report to the Security Council no later than 24 April 2011.
